A skirt for Katerina

This skirt is the second one from this pattern. The pattern I used was New Look 6506, size 7. I wasn't too happy with the first skirt because the yoke bunched up funny at the elastic waist. For this skirt, I shortened the yoke so it didn't fold in half anymore. I attached an elastic in the standard way and it lays much nicer.

A summer nightie for Katerina

This is the second nightie I have made for Katerina from this pattern. The pattern I used is Kwik Sew 3105, size 7.

I shop at Costco

A strange thing happened on the weekend. When I was sitting at a table, reading a book, at Let's Play (see the Noise post), a woman came up to me and said, "You shop at Costco, don't you?" I replied, "Yes" but thinking to myself, Great! I shop there so much, the tellers are starting to recognize me. She replied, "I knew you shopped there because I recognize your shirt."

Huh? Who does that? I might understand if it was from a unique shop or something, but Costco? Costco? The store of mega volume? Or, maybe she was looking for an opening to chat, but nope, she continued on her way.

Some people are strange.

Noise

Why are children immune to noise? The younger they are, the less it seems to bother them. I don't get it. You would think it would be the opposite. As we age and get deaf, you would think we would welcome "the loud". I guess an audiologist would be able to explain it, but to me it is extremely contrary.

Yesterday, Joel and I took the kids and 3 of their friends to Let's Play. Let's Play is an indoor play facility that has an enormous jungle gym, laser tag, arcade, party rooms, and really crappy food. And it's loud. Very loud. Plus it was a Saturday, so it was packed with birthday parties.

The kids had a great time, of course. They ran themselves to exhaustion and consumed copious amounts of sugary foods. The BEST. DAY. EVER.

Skirt and leggings for Katerina

The skirt is Kwik Sew 2939, size 7. The leggings are 3/4 length Jalie 2444.

Sorry about the picture quality. Katerina wasn't really co-operating as she just got back from school and she was tired. I think the skirt would look better without the leggings but it was still quite cold and damp this morning. Katerina really wanted to wear the skirt, so the leggings had to be worn.

I have traced out 2 sizes for the 3/4 leggings, size 7 and size 4, for Katerina and Isabella, respectively. Everytime I change my thread to a colour I have in thin jersey, I'll make a pair for each girl.

Summer nightie for Isabella

This is actually the second one I made for Isabella from this pattern. I still have to take a picture of the first one but the nightie is in the laundry hamper. The pattern is Simplicity 9242, size 4. I altered it slightly.

I sewed one shoulder seam, serged it, then I serged the neckline. I pressed the serged neckline under and then sewed the lace on the neckline. Then, I closed the other shoulder, serged the seam, and tacked it down.

Then, I serged the open arms, pressed the serged arms under, and sewed the lace on. I closed the side seams and serged, with tacking the arm seam down.

For the ruffle, instead of folding it like the pattern suggested, I closed one seam and serged the bottom. I folded the serged edge under and added the lace on top. I then closed the second seam. I attached the ruffle to the body by gathering, and serging. Then I top-stitched the ruffle seam to the body.

Nearing the end of preschool

Isabella has 4 days left of preschool but I think she is definitely done in her mind. Yesterday, she had no desire to go, and today, she is still sleeping. It is 8:40 and preschool starts at 9:00.

Blogging n00b

First time blogger. Long time reader.

I think I'm going to mainly use this blog to record sewing projects, with the occasional life blurb. We'll see, I guess.

Today has been such a dreary day. I'm so glad that the snow has gone, but I'm just so tired from the last few weeks (lots of run-of-the-mill sicknesses in the family) that the rain is not all that welcome. Plus, with no landscaping, my yard is a big mudpit. Even the dog doesn't want to go out to do potty. So, Isabella, my 4 yo, and I hung out today. We both had long soaks in the tub. On a day like today, nothing feels better than a hot bath.
